Position Title: Camp Manager

Reports to: Board of Directors

Status: Full-Time, Onsite – Housing Provided

 

SUMMARY

The Camp Manager leads all operations at Lions Camps at Teresita Pines, ensuring exceptional guest experiences, strong staff leadership, safe and efficient facilities, and positive community and donor relationships. This role oversees daily operations, budgeting, program coordination, food service, maintenance oversight, staff development, and compliance with regulatory agencies including ACA, County Health, and the U.S. Forest Service. The Manager serves as the primary steward of the Camp’s mission and culture.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

1. OPERATIONS & GUEST SERVICES (30%)

• Oversee all day-to-day camp operations, ensuring groups receive excellent service, clean facilities, and a welcoming environment.

• Ensure safety and compliance with County Health, ACA standards, Cal/OSHA, and U.S. Forest Service requirements.

• Manage food service oversight, including menu planning, special dietary needs, ordering oversight, and kitchen operations support.

• Partner with the Facilities Manager to ensure grounds, cabins, utilities, vehicles, and emergency systems remain in excellent condition.

• Ensure program areas operate safely with properly certified staff.

• Review and manage group contracts, COIs, deposits, and scheduling.

• Maintain accurate records, calendars, and operational documentation.

 

2. STAFF LEADERSHIP & SUPERVISION (25%)

• Directly supervise: Facilities Manager; Lead Cooks; Administrative Assistant; Program Lead; Aquatics Supervisor.

• Indirectly supervise: All seasonal and program staff through department leads.

• Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and evaluate all staff.

• Maintain strong morale, communication, and alignment with camp standards.

• Conduct regular staff meetings and one-on-one check-ins.

• Provide leadership visibility during evenings/weekends as needed.

 

3. FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT (15%)

• Create and manage the annual operating budget.

• Monitor expenses, track revenue, and provide ongoing financial review.

• Ensure fiscal responsibility are maintained with Board-approved limits.

• Oversee purchasing procedures and vendor relations.

 

4. PROGRAM OVERSIGHT & COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT (10%)

• Support and guide camp programming through the Program Lead and Aquatics Supervisor.

• Build strong relationships with user groups, Lions Clubs, volunteers, and community partners.

• Lead annual events such as Work Weekend and Open House.

• Represent the camp in community presentations and outreach.

• Assist the Board in outreach for groups that are a match for the mission of the Camp.

 

5. ADMINISTRATION & BOARD RELATIONS (10%)

• Implement Board policies, goals, and procedures.

• Provide monthly reports, updates, and recommendations to the Board.

• Maintain group records, contracts, COIs, staff files, and camp documentation.

• Participate in strategic planning and long-term improvements.

 

6. RISK MANAGEMENT & SAFETY (10%)

• Maintain oversight of the IIPP and general safety protocols.

• Conduct or oversee regular safety trainings and drills.

• Ensure staff follow all safety procedures across program, kitchen, maintenance, and guest areas.

• Promote a culture of safety and risk awareness.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• 5+ years experience in camp administration, hospitality, outdoor education, or facility management.

• Strong leadership, communication, and team development skills.

• Experience managing budgets and operational systems.

• Knowledge of safety standards, compliance processes, and emergency procedures.

• Ability to live onsite and provide on-call support for emergencies.

• Valid driver’s license; ability to pass background check.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience in nonprofit organizations.

• Experience in working with people of all ages with disabilities.

• Experience supervising diverse teams across multiple departments.

• Experience with accreditation processes, county health inspections, and program safety certifications.
